Herbert Y Meltzer, M.D. is Bixler/May/Johnson Professor of Psychiatry, Director of the Division of Psychopharmacology, and Professor of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical School. Dr. Meltzer is one of the thought leaders in schizophrenia diagnosis and treatment, with an international reputation as a basic scientist, clinician and patient advocate. He has published over 700 publications in the field of schizophrenia and related disorders. In 2005, the American Psychiatric Association presented Dr. Meltzer with its prestigious Award for Research in Psychiatry. This lifetime achievement award was given to Dr. Meltzer, in part, in recognition of his research leading to the development of the antipsychotic drugs that are now widely used in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Dr. Meltzer continues his pioneering studies of the complex clinical presentation and pharmacological treatment of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.

Larry Palmer, LL.B is the Endowed Chair in Urban Health Policy at the University of Louisville. His expertise is addressing the inevitable ethical legal and social issues involved in modern medical practice. Prior to accepting the position at University of Louisville, he was professor of law at Cornell University Law School in Ithaca, New York. He is the author of Law, Medicine, and Social Justice (1989), Endings and Beginnings: Law, Medicine and Law in Assisted Life and Death (2000), and articles dealing with law, medicine, and health policy. He is a director of the Hastings Center in Garrison, New York and a member of the American Bar Bioethics and the Law Coordinating Committee. He was a director of the National Patient Safety Foundation from 1997-2000. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School.

Dr. Joseph Firca, Ph.D. Dr. Firca is a nationally recognized leader in the life science and biotechnology arena in matters of research, technology assessment, and regulatory issues and brings more than 35 years of extensive operating and product development knowledge to SureGene. In addition to his combined 15 years at Baxter International, Inc. and Abbott Laboratories, Dr. Firca has either co-founded or been an integral part of numerous entrepreneurial ventures including: Chief Operating Officer and Chief Scientific Officer of Nanosphere, Inc., Vice President of Product Development for BioArray Solutions, Ltd., Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of CarePoint, Inc., and Vice President of Research & Development and Clinical Drug Development for Ophidian Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Firca has contributed to a number of select publications and patents. Some of his career highlights include the isolation of a micro-organism contributing to the high mortality rates in pediatric burn units; development of immunoassays for the detection of infectious disease agents; co-development of the first automated DNA synthesizer; Abbott liaison to Amgen, Inc. for a joint collaboration on DNA probes for infectious diseases; systems integration for major instrumentation in blood donor screening; co-founder of CarePoint, Inc., a point-of-care company developing diagnostic assays and instruments for the cardiovascular market and Adjunct Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering, Northwestern University. In addition to his work at the California Institute of Technology and Argonne National Laboratory, Dr. Firca holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology (Microbial Genetics) from the University of Cincinnati, an M.S. in Microbiology (Mycology) from Duquesne University and a B.S. in Biology from Xavier University.
